Sinusoidal Transform based OFDM for Underwater Acoustic Communications

Sinusoidal Transform based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is proposed for Underwater Acoustic Communications. Underwater acoustic channels are large delay spread channels. The sinusoidal transforms can be used as an alternative to the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) for OFDM wireless transmission with the added advantages of reduced implementation area, increased computational speed and lower cost as only real calculations is required. The proposed system when applied to underwater channel has a better bit error rate (BER) performance and has lower peak to average power ratio (PAPR) than standard OFDM. Simulation results show the suitability of the proposed scheme to underwater channel.
